Where a Smooth Overlay Solves the Problem
Interior concrete comes with a predictable set of complaints. Trowel marks from the original pour. Adhesive residue from carpet or tile that came up. Patchy color. A surface that was never meant to be seen and now is.
Smooth Coat resurfaces all of it. The polymer enhanced, fine aggregate formulation trowels down to a smooth or lightly textured finish over a prepared slab, which means the finished floor is a new surface rather than a cleaned up old one.

What Fine Aggregate Changes
Aggregate size is the whole difference between a smooth overlay and a stampable one. A coarser mix carries pattern and depth. A fine mix carries flatness.
That makes Smooth Coat the product for thin applications. It can be pulled tight for a smooth troweled finish, worked for a light texture, or used as a base coat under other decorative work. Feathering into an existing surface at a doorway or transition is realistic with a fine mix and difficult with a coarse one.
Polymer enhancement handles the bond and the flexibility, which matters more in thin sections than thick ones. A rigid topping applied at a shallow depth has almost no capacity to absorb substrate movement. A polymer modified one does.
Base Coat, Texture Coat, or Top Coat
Smooth Coat is not locked into a single role on a job, and knowing which role it is playing changes how much material to order.
As a top coat, it is the finished floor. The surface gets troweled, colored, and sealed, and nothing else goes over it.
As a texture coat, it carries a light broom, swirl, or knockdown finish where a fully smooth floor would be too slick or too plain for the space.
As a base coat, it flattens and levels the substrate ahead of the decorative layer that follows. On floors where the original slab is uneven, this is often the honest first step rather than trying to make a single thin coat do two jobs.
Getting the Slab Ready
Interior slabs come with contamination that exterior slabs usually do not. Old adhesive, sealer, mastic, and coatings all block adhesion and all have to come off before an overlay goes down.
Profile matters as much as cleanliness. The International Concrete Repair Institute publishes the surface profile guidance most overlay specifications reference, and its technical guideline on concrete surface preparation lays out how preparation method and finished profile relate.

The base color decision on an interior floor is more consequential than on exterior work, because interior lighting is less forgiving and the client is standing on the surface every day.
Gray base is the practical default for mid tone and darker floors, industrial looks, and anywhere the finished color sits in the charcoal to slate range.
White base is the choice for light floors, warm neutrals, and saturated colors. On a broad open floor, a white body keeps a cream or buff reading clean rather than muddy.
Sealing an Interior Floor
Interior floors get walked on, dragged across, and cleaned, which makes sealer selection a durability decision rather than a finish preference.
